Where Are You Going?

Smart, effective, and profitable strategies for building an energy management plan.

Are You On Track?

How do you use and manage your energy? Have you explored all cost savings opportunities?

Let Us Help.

Together, we will walk through our four-step process to developing your energy management road map.

Global Adjustment Savings

Global Adjustment (GA) is a line item on monthly hydro bills which accounts for the difference between the market price of energy and rates paid to energy generators. This single line item is generally the highest component of commercial and industrial hydro bills.

Customers who qualify for and participate in the Industrial Conservation Initiative (ICI), pay global adjustment based on their percentage contribution to the top five peak electricity demand hours each year. This calculation method can significantly reduce GA costs when compared to the standard calculation.

The ICI program must be opted into. As of January 2017 the ICI program removed certain restrictions on small and large businesses who were previously ineligible. However, companies with peak demand of less than 5 MW are not automatically enrolled. To take advantage of the cost savings with ICI, eligible companies must enroll by June 15 each year. GR Energy Management prepares the necessary forms and coordinates with the hydro companies to ensure our customers achieve the highest savings possible.

How Does It Work?

Companies participating in the ICI reduce their electricity demand periodically throughout the year during projected peak demand hours. As part of your Energy Management Plan (EMP), we develop a plan to curtail load or switch to on-site generators during peak demand hours. This can significantly reduce your annual GA costs.

As part of GR Energy's ICI service, companies receive

  • Peak Curtailment Advisories (PCA) allowing you to prepare your curtailment plan in order to maximize your efforts. This will allow for production re-scheduling, maintenance planning and also provides notification to employees that may be impacted due to load shifting.
  • On expected peak demand days, Peak Demand Day (PDD) notices and are sent out identifying the hours at greatest risk of becoming a peak hour.
  • PDD notices will remind energy management teams of the developed curtailment plan and provide additional actions as necessary. Updates to PDD notices are provided throughout the day and will take into consideration weather patterns as well as current and expected system demand.
  • Detailed curtailment plans, equipment labeling and documentation of loads to be shut off during peak demand hours so as to stream line ICI efforts.
  • In addition to PCAs and PDD notifications, we can provide expert care and on-site support throughout peak periods at your facility to ensure that your curtailment efforts are maximized.
